For the Riverside Golf & Sports Centre, having cameras on the walls had stopped being enough. The team needed to see what was happening across the property and find usable footage when it mattered. Integrated Security Services rebuilt the commercial CCTV system around those everyday needs, bringing the clubhouse, driving range and maintenance areas together in one reliable, straightforward platform.

At a glance

  • Client: City of Moonee Valley
  • Site: Riverside Golf & Sports Centre, Melbourne
  • Scope: Full commercial CCTV rebuild across the clubhouse, driving range and maintenance areas
  • Key equipment: Hanwha Vision cameras, Nx Witness VMS, Ubiquiti wireless links, SIP horn speakers
  • Infrastructure: Certified Cat 6 cabling, lockable enclosures, rack-mounted equipment, UPS protection

The challenge of an ageing system

The existing installation had grown into a patchwork of analogue and IP cameras, with several no longer working. Visibility was limited, and operators struggled to access recordings, let alone export footage for evidence. The maintenance area also needed coverage to help protect valuable equipment and assets.

Behind the scenes, recorders sat on benches and cabinets, with exposed cables vulnerable to being pulled out or damaged. There was little value in adding new cameras to an unreliable foundation. We approached the project as a substantial rebuild, considering how the entire site operated and what staff would need from the system over time.

Connecting the course with commercial CCTV

A golf course presents a practical challenge: the areas that need protection are often a long way apart. Ubiquiti wireless transmission provided high-throughput links across the site, connecting the driving range with the wider surveillance network.

Hanwha Vision cameras provided the image quality and reliability needed for a busy commercial environment. On a site this size, choosing the right resolution for each view matters more than simply fitting the largest sensor available. Nx Witness VMS brought those views together, giving staff one accessible video management system for day-to-day use. Managers could review and export footage, while other authorised users could be given live viewing access appropriate to their role.

Workmanship that supports the years ahead

The quality of the installation mattered just as much as the equipment. We rebuilt the wired backbone with Cat 6 cabling, tested and certified to Category 6 standards. Proper lockable enclosures, rack-mounted equipment, patch panels and cable minders replaced the loose, exposed arrangement.

That care makes a difference long after handover. When a camera needs to be repatched or the system changes, organised cabling makes the equipment easier to locate and work on. Facilities teams live with the consequences of an untidy installation; thoughtful cable management helps make future servicing more straightforward.

Doing the job properly can cost a little more at the outset. Over the life of a system, easier maintenance and fewer avoidable problems can make that investment worthwhile. It is an approach that has helped us build long-term relationships with clients who value work they can rely on.

Helping staff respond on the driving range

The new upper level of the driving range needed broad coverage to support patron safety and daily supervision. Dual-head cameras provided visibility across the space, while SIP horn speakers integrated with the VMS gave staff a practical way to communicate with patrons directly from the video interface.

An operator could view an area and speak to someone there without first leaving their workstation. The system became a useful part of running the facility, helping staff understand what was happening and respond promptly when attention was needed.

Building resilience into everyday operation

A camera fault should not remain hidden until somebody needs a recording. System health monitoring provides visibility of camera availability and recorder hard-drive health, with reports showing when a camera goes offline and how long the interruption lasts. This gives the team information to identify and address faults.

SD-card failover adds another layer of protection, allowing powered cameras to record locally if the recorder is unavailable. UPS protection supports the system during power interruptions, subject to battery capacity and outage duration. Together, these measures reduce the risk of gaps in recording and strengthen confidence in the system.

Working around a live facility

Riverside remained an operational site throughout the installation. Work around the driving range had to account for patrons using the facility as well as technicians working at height. We staged the installation around those conditions, using appropriate access and harness equipment and personnel qualified for the work.

Careful coordination allowed the upgrade to progress with the safety of patrons, staff and our technicians at the centre of the approach.

A clearer view and a stronger foundation

Riverside now has visibility across the clubhouse, driving range and maintenance areas, supported by a platform staff can use with confidence. Reviewing footage is more straightforward, access can reflect each person’s responsibilities, and integrated audio supports day-to-day supervision.

Just as importantly, the equipment behind those capabilities is organised, protected and easier to service. The result is a commercial CCTV system designed to remain useful well beyond installation day.
